Historicidade e geogra cidade do Pateo do Collegio, coração do centro histórico de São Paulo

Resumo

Resumo: Este artigo é sobre o Pateo do Collegio, lugar do Centro Histórico da cidade de São Paulo. Trata-se de um lugar de fé e memória para a cidade de São Paulo, enquanto sítio reconhecido como local de fundação da vila de Piratininga no ano de 1554, pelos padres jesuítas. Para desenvolver este estudo, investigamos a história do lugar, cotejando-a com distintos contextos geográ cos e culturais. O foco deste artigo está nos primeiros centenários da história do Pateo, o que demanda uma incursão complexa pelos caminhos dos jesuítas e do próprio desenvolvimento de São Paulo de Piratininga. Assim, apresentamos e discutimos a respeito da geogra a do sítio original da cidade, reconstituindo o percurso jesuíta até a data simbólica do batismo do lugar em 25 de janeiro de 1554, e a trajetória do lugar durante os anos de ocupação jesuíta até tornar-se residência do governo da capitania, nos anos 1760.

Abstract: is paper is about the Pateo do Collegio, at the Historic Center of the city of São Paulo. It is a place of faith and memory for the city of São Paulo, as a site acknowledged as the founding site of the Piratininga village in the year of 1554, by Jesuit priests. In order to develop this survey, we investigated the history of the place, comparing it with di erent geographical and cultural contexts. The focus of this article is the rst centenaries of the history of the Pateo, which requires a complex foray into the Jesuits steps and the development of São Paulo of Piratininga itself. us, we present and discuss about the geography of the city’s original site, recreating the Jesuit steps toward the symbolic date of the land baptism on January 25, 1554, and the history of the place during the years of Jesuit occupation until it became the residence of the captaincy government in the years 1760.
