Abstract: Ratzinger’s existential Christology is like a light that challenges us. Our objective with this paper is to rescue the reflection – so ancient and so fresh – of the great German theologian who became Pope. Dogma and Preaching was taken as the core text of our article. The author leads us to understand Christology in the existential perspective, by highlighting the dynamics of discipleship, and emphasizing the notion of discipleship. As a result, we can comprehend how the Christology in the book Introduction to Christianity must be understood. Finally, we realize that Ratzinger reaches the top of his Christological reflection with the great work Jesus of Nazareth, which must be understood and assumed through the eyes of the Encyclical Deus Caritas Est and in the words of the Pope during the Conference of Aparecida.

Keywords: Christology. Ratzinger. Existential. Encounter. Relation.
