Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida: a Rainha dos brasileiros

Resumo

Resumo: O presente artigo tem por objetivo analisar o processo que levou a imagem de Nossa Senhora Aparecida a ser declarada como Rainha do Brasil em 8 de Setembro de 1904, mostrando como se deu a invenção de uma nova tradição mariana em torno desse símbolo alinhada com o debate de símbolos nacionais, tendo como recorte espacial e temporal a cidade do Rio de Janeiro, a antiga capital federal, e a cidade de Guaratinguetá, da qual o município de Aparecida ainda fazia parte (1903-1904). As fontes utilizadas para a pesquisa e suas localizações são os seguintes: cartas pastorais no Arquivo da Cúria do Rio de Janeiro; manuais de devoção e jornal “Santuario D’Apparecida” no Centro de Documentação e Memória do Santuário Aparecida; e os periódicos “O Apos- tolo” e “Jornal do Brasil”, que estão disponíveis na Hemeroteca Digital da Biblio- teca Nacional.

Abstract: This article aims to analyze the process which took the image of Our Lady of Aparecida to be declared as “Queen of Brazil” in September 8, 1904 showing how the invention of a new Marian tradition was created around this symbol aligned with the debate of national symbols, having as its spatial and temporal framework the city of Rio de Janeiro, former federal capital, and the city of Guaratinguetá, to which the town of Aparecida belonged to in the period from 1903 to 1904. The resources used for this research and their locations are as follows: pastoral letters, in the Archive of the Curia of Rio de Janeiro; manuals of devotion and the newspaper “Shrine D’Apparecida”, in the Documentation and Memory Center of the National Shrine of Aparecida; and the periodicals “O Apostolo” and “Jornal do Brasil”, which are available at the Digital Newspapers and Periodicals Library of the Brazilian National Library.
